The process is reversible, though, which allows the heat pump system to both heat and cool your home. The refrigerant in your HVAC system should last as long as the unit itself, or about 15 years. However, if your unit has a leak, an HVAC professional may need to add refrigerant to your mini-split after repairs have been completed.
Ideally, you should have your mini split system serviced and deep-cleaned annually. While most companies will clean your system during routine maintenance, it doesn't take the place of deep cleaning that will get rid of mold and microbial contamination.
Let your system run continuously.
A mini-split system uses less energy and keeps temperatures most consistent when it runs continuously, as in, 24/7.
